Web 2.0 - round 2 - Summary

Another great ride.

Some excellent sites and some less so, but it does depend on the potential user so it is a good idea to be aware.

( You don't need to have read all the books in the library to be able to successfully promote reader advisory services - but you need to know how and where to find them. Same for the internet in my view)

Available work time can be a real issue for some of us.

Well done everybody

Web2.0-round 2-week 6- EnCompassCulture

This is another great site and would be a worthwhile addition to our learn net.

Is user friendly and would be easy to promote .

Some similarity between GoodReads and even our aquabrowser.

Another excellent tool for library staff to assist our customers in reader advisory.

web 2.0 - round 2- week 5- SlideShare

This is another interesting site and user friendly.

More appeal for those with specific marketing/research requirements.

Would be a postive addition in our learn net and easily promoted.

Web 2.0 - round 2 - week 4 - Tastespotting

WOW !
What a fabulous site.

I choose a recipe for "crackle Cookies" ( with my stomach in partnership with my eyes!!)
Stunning visual and seemingly simple receipe.

Site is very easy to use and has endless possibilities from the hungry to the "what do I cook for tea" desperate.
I would definitely use this site again and recommend.

I love it!!

web2.0 - round 2 - week 3 - FeedMyInbox

FeedMyInbox was easy to use, but had some difficulty with blog site chosen and linking.
Could promote but may not.

Could be a useful tool to offer in the learn net.

web 2.0 round 2 - Week 2 - Picapp
My picture is a stunning beach in Saint tropez - not really hard to understand the choice - could be everybody's "happy place".

Picapp as a site is user friendly and would be easy for library staff and customers alike to utilize.

I would be happy to promote this site to our customers - I may even use it myself !!

Manukau could use this to promote services in unlimited ways. Exciting potential.

web 2.0 - round 2- week 1 - Box.net

I have signed up to Box.net and uploaded a file to this new "Box" account.

I'm sure we could find uses for it in work terms, but I would not use it personally.

It was ( eventually) user friendly and could be promoted to customers as required/requested.

web 2.0 - 1

I did find and complete the online survey - although it was rather elusive

ONLINE SURVEY:

I'm having trouble finding this ??- but will complete it when I do

OVERALL WEB 2.0...

An interesting, interactive trip.

Lots of information and options.

Especially LOVED GOOD READS - fantastic

Remain aware of ( and wary of ) social sites - twitter & facebook. but understand how to access and promote.

Not everything is for everybody - but it's great to have the options.
WEEK 6 : Facebook

I have visited Facebook several times and had an interesting tour of Manukau Libraries Facebook site.

For personal and privacy reasons I choose not to sign up myself.
I have no interest in publishing personal information on the internet and would not use it myself.

I am well aware of the popularity of Facebook and know how to access and join.It is user friendly.

It's a great tool in Manukau Libraries toolbox with which to communicate and advertise our wonderful services.

I would be able to assist our Patrons as and if necessary -although my experience to date is that the people who want to use it already know how.

WEEK 5: Music Files and mp3s

The music available is comprehensive and varied. Country, blues to hard rock and hip hop.

Anything you can think of is available, and easy and mostly free to download.

You can find your old favourite or info on a brand new album.

A music lover's dream....

I think that the customers who would be wanting to use this type of website would be conversant with it, but it is reasonably user friendly.

WEEK 4: Books and Social networking

GOODREADS is fantastic.

I really enjoyed exploring this site and it has great potential for future book information rating, storing and sharing.
Options for Book clubs has promise too.

For these reasons it is an excellent site to promote readers' advisory.

Week 3: TWITTER- micro blogging at a glance

I had a look at @Manukau_Libs and found it interesting.
I could see Pakuranga Library's transformation unfolding.

For personal/privacy reasons I have not joined up to TWITTER , but I know how to do so and I have a full understanding of what it is all about.

TWITTER is people friendly to use and there may be an interest for it in our learn nets.

Manukau Libraries could use TWITTER to promote activities etc

WEB 2.0 : Week 2 - ZAMZAR - converting file formats

I think that this will be very useful and simple both for staff and customers.

It would be a good option both on the learn net and workrooms.

Personally I doubt I will use this, but would be happy to promote to customers.

Another useful "tool" in the customer service toolkit.

web2.0 again

Expectations would be for more exciting, interesting learning opportunities with less confusion than last time.

Libraries could use a blog as yet another way to connect to its users and community.

Anything that is happening in our vibrant libraries would be a great and I'm sure appreciated by our communities.
