WEEK 7 : 17

SOCIAL NETWORKING

Bebo, Myspace and Facebook are facinating and useful to many and essential to even more...

BUT

For ME (also as the mother of 2 teenagers) they are totally

TOO MUCH INFORMATION

I can understand the use , but don't want it for me

WEEK 6 : 14 , 15 & 16

TAGGING , FOLKSONOMIES & TECHNORATI

I found this week a bit confusing.
However some information was interesting. The volume of "Blogging" is Mind boggling! Well in excess of 50 Billion (July 2006)
Tagging is useful in searching for blogs, either by keywords or "taggs" themselves.
Library 2.0 is an extension of Web 2.0 and the future pathway to continue meeting our communites fluid and evolving needs.
What are libraries? Libraries are not just collections of documents and books, they are conversations, they are convocations of people, ideas, and artifacts in dynamic exchange. Libraries are not merely in communities, they are communities: they preserve and promote community memories; they provide mentors not only for the exploration of stored memory, but also for the creation of new artifacts of memory. What was the library of the past? A symbol of a society
I liked "On the Way to the Library Experience of the Future" and have listed a partial quote below:

WEEK 5 : 12. & !3 : WIKIS

Wiki means "Quick" in Hawaiian.

An interesting exchange of information and opinions.

I especially enjoyed "Book Lovers Wiki". A virtual bookclub. Books reviewed and commented on by the world's wiki bloggers.

I also liked "Library Sucess Wiki" . There is enormous potential for future application by our libraries.
Possible "Book Readers" wikis or summer reading, teen clubs...

WEEK 4 :10 & 11

Fickr mashups and 3rd party sites.

A lot of fun ( bit of a time waster perhaps...)

I particularly liked "montagr". Very intriging.
The one I viewed was a collage of photos of people in tiny squares.
you could click on any one and see a larger and clearer view.
Almost a virtual picture!!

Week 3 : 8 Rollyo

Setting up Rollyo was a bit confusing and time consuming. On that basis I'm not sure about it's practicality for future use :(
